Ethics 101: Developing an Internal Corporate Code of Ethics

 (three hours of hands-on instruction)

Objectives:

  1. Articulate a corporate long-term vision, driving mission, and possibly values statements.
  2. Design how the creation and/or results of the above will be shared with employees.
  3. Determine how to evaluate employees’ upholding of corporate ethics.  (e.g. measured  informally, where ethical policy is used as a guideline, or formally, where employee’s conduct is assessed and employee is held accountable)
  4. Identify a safe and confidential procedure for employees to bring ethical issues or questions to management’s attention. (ethical concerns typically handled confidentially by management prior to a formal grievance management process being identified)
  5. Create a plan for a safe work environment free from harassment, which will be implemented and monitored according to the ethical procedures reporting policy.

NOTE: Written documentation of the completion and implementation of the 5 objectives above must be submitted within 30 days for course credit.   If the above steps have already been completed, or can be completed remotely, class attendance may be waived.  Credit for Ethics Development 101 course can be awarded upon receipt and approval of the documentation required in objectives 1-5 above.
